Buffered peptone water (BPW) is one of the most widely used pre-enrichment broths for Salmonella in a wide range of foods. Moreover, it is often the medium of choice in many published reference methods, including the current International Organization for Standardization (ISO) method (Anon. 1998), for the detection of Salmonella in foods.
INTENDED USE Hardy Diagnostics Peptone Water, 0.1% is recommended as a diluent for microbial enumeration purposes as described by the Food and Drug Administration and The U.S. Pharmacopeia National Formulary (USP-NF) for use in pharmaceutical and cosmetic testing and by the American Public Health Association and Environmental Protection Agency for food, dairy and water industries. Organism - 0.1% Buffered Peptone Water + 0.1% Tween (Fluid D), USP, Syrup 0.1% Peptone Water + 0.1% Tween (Fluid D), USP, Syrup A diluting and rinsing fluid for sterility testing of pharmaceutical products according to the membrane filtration method, fluid D is supplemented with 0.1% Tween 80 Peptone water is a buffered solution generally containing peptone—a soluble protein—which is then buffered to a neutral pH (approximately 7.0) using a base disodium phosphate. Buffered Peptone Water is a pre-enrichment medium designed to help recovery of sub-lethally damaged Salmonellae before transfer to a selective medium. This pre-enrichment medium is free from inhibitors and is well buffered and provides conditions for resuscitation of the cells that have been injured by processes of food preservation. Available with peptone water, buffered peptone water, butterfield's buffer, deionized water, phosphate buffer with MgCl, and as an empty sterile container.
