There is a bug in DD-WRT in case user uses L2TP WAN connection over DHCP-enabled MAN network and L2TP server is load-balanced (have more than one IP). Example: Provider uses DHCP to assign MAN IP and DNS on MAN port. Provider gives access to Internet over L2TP (or PPTP also?) L2TP server have name l2tp.provider.org and resolved as

2. Ensure the IP of the DD-WRT router is not conflicting with your main router. If your main router is currently 192.168.1.1 DD-WRT has to be in the same subnet, an example of ithis is: 192.168.1.51. 3. Ensure the DD-WRT is connected to any other router from its WAN port. 4. You could also try setting the DD-WRT router to a 'Static' connection yes username & password, i said "secret" entry is missing for the router to connect to a l2tp server. the router is trying to use l2tp to connect as a client, not server. l2tp needs: username password secret (preshared key) ddwrt is missing the secret option in gui, cant connect to any l2tp server cause of it A simple guide to setup PPTP VPN connection on a DD-WRT router with no script. Step-by-step screenshots provided for better understanding of VPN configuration process. 1. Disable the DHCP server on your existing router only if you want all your devices to access the internet via the VPN. 2. Disable DHCP server on the DD-WRT, only if you want certain devices to access the internet via the VPN (This option you will need to set the static gateway IP on your device to that of the DD-WRT router) DD-WRT User Joined: 28 Jun 2006 Posts: 71 Location: Bethesda, MD, USA: Posted: Sat Mar 24, 2007 21:48 Post subject: Just pass PPTP/L2TP traffic, not act as a server? OpenVPN has so much ease of use and so much stability unter almost every condition that it IS the defacto DD-WRT way of VPN. *swans are big and ugly and will never reach any DD-WRT release i think. on chance would be the ipsec-tools which are optimized for small devices but the ip"Sec" standard (which isnt really a standard. instead its a collection of many tools, protocols, etc.) has to much

On DD-WRT, go to the Administration->Services and set PPTP server to active, save the changes, then set the IP of router (192.168.1.1) for the server IP, and under Client IP (s) set a range for connections. (192.168.1.20-29 for example of a ten client set up)

Cisco Meraki does L2TP over IPSec and so do dozens of other firewalls. Does DD-WRT support multi-WAN configuration (say LAN1 traffic goes to WAN1 with L2TP over IPSec, WAN1 + other LANS traffic leave the router on WAN2 see picture in my post) Does DD-WRT does support "L2TP" only (not with IPSec) for WAN interface L2TP or Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) is the result of a partnership between Cisco and Microsoft. It was created to provide a more secure VPN protocol than PPTP. L2TP is a tunneling protocol like PPTP that allows users to access the common network remotely.

I could not get L2TP to pass successfully through the router to the Windows RRAS server. L2TP worked fine on the LAN.
