Windows 10: How to access a file share as a different user A share on server can be accessed as user A. I also have a Windows 10 PC, named client. I am logged on to client as user B and want to access user A's share on server. On Windows 7 and earlier clients, I can provide user A's credentials when mapping a share. Still on Windows: To gain access to the shared folder, I used the IP of the Windows machine instead of the COMPUTERNAME, cf. this. To find the IP of your Windows machine, right click the network logo, open Network and Sharing Settings and choose Change connection properties .

When you share a folder, the sharing settings for the files and subfolders inside are updated. Depending on how you shared the folder, the people you shared with will have access to the files inside: Can organize, add, & edit: People can open, edit, delete, or move any files within the folder. People can also add files to the folder.
